Aww, that’s sad news. I’d been wondering if he was ok, he’d been quiet on BCUK for a while.

That’s sad news. He seemed to be quite active so I hope he didn’t suffer with an illness for too long.

Not being morbid or entrenched in grief raking, nearly a year on, but strangely, this came up in my query for something else entirely.
It's an obituary written by his brother. I've added it in here just because it kind of completes things.
Sounds like a good way to scatter and send all the physical bits back to the life he loved so much.

Dr. Brian Thair
Died on June 23, 2023, at the age of 77. His daughters, Adrienne and Simone, had been with him most of the last three weeks.

Brian was a fascinating guy, with a thousand hobbies: builder of theatre costumes and props, grouse-hunter, water-colourer, photographer, gourmet chef, woodcarver, grapevine retailer, range officer, shortwave radio operator, winemaker, fireworks technician, fisher, and ambler along the Robson Valley logging roads.

He was kind. And he was irascible, smart, funny, puerile, sensible, competent, a talker, and usually patient with me, his younger brother.

Taking a walk through the forest with him was a delight, witnessing his enthusiasm, and his ability to state the genus and species of every plant. I mean every plant. And most bugs, too. He taught me to look.

His family will go up those roads one more time to scatter his ashes in the Robson Valley he loved. And I'll remember to look. Really look.

There is no more fitting memorial for a botanist than a tree. If you like, consider alivingtree.ca.

Hai! Hai!

and on the woodworkers forum too,
