So I got some dug earlier. Plenty more to clear!
I expected the root to be juicier though maybe that’s just a time of year issue.
Any how, I’ve had it mind to combo horseradish in with beetroot juice so I cut a small slice off and dropped it in. Left it for a bit of time then a sip - very odd! No hint of horseradish but also the earthiness of the beetroot has disappeared. Needs some more investigation!!
So this was two weeks ago (ish)
I think I had a bad reaction to the root, though not from ingesting it - I had some form of skin contact dermatitis around just one of my eyes and the best guess is that it was juice on my hand that I hadn’t washed off.
The following week after digging this up it looked like I had been punched quite a few times. Itchy, swollen and achy. Had issues sleeping on a few nights. One night I was in bed at 10, woke up at midnight and then two and half hours later gave up trying to resist clawing my face off so just went to work - it was quite a quiet drive in!
Saw a Dr at the end of the week and after a lengthy check including her phoning the hospital to chat to eye casualty, the best answer was to carry on with antihistamines as it was improving.
Last week I had a new bed delivered on Tuesday. As I was off work I chucked some bits in the wheelbarrow and took them round to the allotment.
That night, the swelling came up again - I think I must have had some on the wheelbarrow handle!!!
I’m happy to say that the swelling is down now and just dealing with the dry and wrinkly skin.
I’ll be doing some testing on my arm with the root but potentially I’ll be digging the lot and burning it!
