Gauge Blocks - but Why?

I have an urge, no not that one!

I have an urge for a set of gauge blocks. I have absolutely no use for them, but I like the way that they stick together. Being out of work I need to be more circumspect with money so I won't be buying a set, but a couple of blocks wouldn't be a pecuniary disaster. How easily I persuade myself!
