About three weeks ago saw some cheap packets of tea India ginger chai in the co op, just 33p. Never had it before, got one, it's brilliant. Went back two days later with the brainwave of stocking up, they has sold the lot! Bastards.
Finished it today and only place can see to get more is amazon. Other ginger tea things available in Co op or morrissons I have tried before in years gone by, but they are wishy washy in comparison, there's a pukka three ginger one but it works out about twenty pence a cup or something. Got some root ginger, and powder. Any suggestions?

I've never had chai, so I'd suggest you look at the packet and see what the ingredients are and try and reproduce it.
I drink ginger tea daily. I put lemon and honey in it too, and at night I often put in a camomile tea bag, camomile on its own tastes of weeds, and I don't like it, but its realy nice with the ginger and honey added, quite drinkable especially as a nightcap.

It's just 75% tea and 25% ginger iirc.

A quick google on the co site says,

Ingredients. Assam Black Tea** (73%), Ginger (9%), Cinnamon (9%), Cardamom (2.5%), Cloves (2.5%), Black Pepper, Anise (2%), **Rainforest Alliance Certified™

That's per 100g

So, were it me, I'd make it up like this.....you might need to juggle the quantities to get just the right taste, but...

75g Black loose leaf tea, or open up 20 ordinary tea bags.

2 level teaspoonsful of ground ginger
2 level teaspoonsful of ground cinnamon
half a teaspoonful of ground cardamom
half a teaspoonful of ground cloves
a scant half teaspoonful of ground pepper
a scant half teaspoonful of ground aniseed

That's all presuming that your spice drawer is well set up.

If you have ordinary cloves just use those, you need at maybe 10, (this is one of the personal taste bits) crush them.
If you have ordinary cardamoms you need at least six, break them up and add.
Whole aniseeds you'll need a scant teaspoonful.

This will make loose leaf tea. Unless you have disposable or reusable teabags :) I do, and I use them for stuff like this, but just making the tea in a pot and straining it will do fine.

Where do you get reusable tea bags from Mary, never heard of them before, and that sounds a lot better than carting tea strainers to camp for my wild teas.

It's just 75% tea and 25% ginger iirc.

If that's all that's in your pack then just slice up some of the root ginger and add that to your ordinary tea in the mug.

It seems a bit plain though :dunno:

If you grate the ginger you'll get a kind of stringy mess of fibres and juice but it really does let the flavour flood out.

Failing that, I buy crystallised ginger and pop a few pieces into my tea mug and just enjoy the tea, and then the hot chewy gingery bits at the end :)

I bought mine from Nothing but Tea, but they went out of business at the end of last year :sigh:

I've just had a google, and it's 2.99 for 100 on Amazon just now. Lots of availability :)

I'm not gonna need 100! 😺
I have some muslin offcuts that would be perfect for making my own. Ten minutes with a pair of scissors and my sewing machine and I could have them tomorrow, now I know what they are.
Thanks for yet another project! 😀
