It was to stop the body being used as a medical cadaver.

It horrified people at the time that medical students wanted to study on real bodies.....prisoners were often executed and their bodies handed over for dissection. The ultimate disgrace of dismemberment, like the hung drawn and quartered of the past.

Burke and Hare were graverobbers who decided it was easier just to take the living rather than dig up the pre-deceased.

I knew that really. The medical school building in Leeds had a discreet door round the back that led to a lift that was used for bringing cadavers into the anatomy room.
That said, I’d like to think that were my ex to end up in a grave there would be two or three guys who’d make sure she wouldn’t be coming back by doing that too! :)

New to the Uni, and mind Glasgow is an old Uni even if it's main buildings are Gilbert Scott in all his Gothic detail, a friend and I followed the winding stone stair under the Geography building for three turns, so quite deep underground....to come face to face with a wire screen with a wee notice on it.
"No dead bodies to be left beyond this point"
it said.

We reckoned we were far enough down that we were actually underneath the anatomy building, which still displayed the most horrific collection of foetus in preservative liquor among it's range of 'spare parts' from assorted human dissections. The vulva and uterus of a Hottentot lady for instance.

Needless to say we rather bolted ourselves back up and into the sunlight :)

So, the electric one ?
Does it lack the horizontal fart of the speeding eejit zipping through the traffic like a demented mozzie ?

I do rather have a fancy for another motorcycle and I’m told the ones powered by electrickery are hellish quick, but I fear the powers that be would pretty soon veto it. Perfect reasonable really as I can’t stand up unaided!
The PTB can be rather nit picky.

This electric one has a max speed of 45 mph, if that can help.
If you struggle to stand then maybe a bike+sidecar is more adapted?

More for cruising city streets than blasting round the countryside. I just like the styling ;)

Agreed. For urban cruising it must be great as indeed the styling is very attractive. But an expensive toy with a limited role. Great thought, as it will only get better.
