I have ranted about this before.
American Youtube preppers are eejits.
There are NO cases of botulism from ordinary jam making in the UK, and I can't find any in Europe either.
62 cases of botulism since 1922.....and yes, that date's right.... and in 1922 the cause was Duck Pate.
It's totally mince.
The only recent cases of botulism in the UK were from canned meat, and in every case it was meat canned outside the UK....Polish, USA, etc., not British.
1922 8 Duck pâté A
1932 2 Rabbit and pigeon broth
1934 1 Jugged hare
1935 5 Vegetarian nut brawn
1935 1 Minced meat pie
1949 5 Macaroni cheese
1955 2 Pickled fish (Mauritius)
1978 4 Canned salmon (USA)
1987 1 Rice and vegetable shelf stable airline meal
1989 1 Hazelnut yoghurt
1998 2 Bottled mushrooms (Italy)
2003 1 Sausage (Poland)
2004 1 Hummus NK
2004 1 Source not known but returned from travelling in Georgia
2005 1 (0) Yes Home-preserved pork (Poland) B
The only other known cause is heroin injection.
Nowhere is Jam ever a cause of botulism.
You're more likely to get a hangover if your jam goes off.
Mould on bread, on cheese or on jam can just be removed and the rest of the food eaten without getting upset guts or poisoning.
Rant over. I'll go and be good.
