They shoud teach it in school. The point of a backup is to absolutely ensure that you never lose or break the first one. It is a Law. Three is just philosophically, morally incorrect.
Three let's you give one to a friend and still have a backup.

Been dog sitting for the last 2 weeks. She went home last night and now our home is empty again. She's coming back in 2 weeks though. Owner called today to say she was sulking at home. They're happy though knowing she's happy with us.

The owner of a lab I used to look after was a little put out when he sulked by the door for the day after they got back from their holiday and I'd gone home.

Ah geez, I very rarely walk him? Laura usually walks him twice a day, I only get involved if she's indisposed but normally she heads that off by knackering him on a long walk in the morning while everyone else is asleep?

Make them into earrings, let Sully choose another dog, and give her 3 chihuahuas.

He looks like a Scottish deerhound.

Friends have a couple; honestly if he didnae leash them they'd have every blooming beast they come across.
Not supposed to be quite so 'ready to engage', they're supposed to be kind of laid back.

Apart from the socks he looks to be a lovely dog. What breed is he?
Thanks BR, don’t think I’ve introduced him before? Rufus is a Lurcher, probably some kind of Afghan cross.
Poor sod had a pretty awful start to his life, certainly beaten and kicked about and then chucked on a dual carriageway at about 6/7 months old.
He’s come on a long way in 6 years, (6 long years for me!) no longer constantly the quivering wreck. Humans are the issue, he wants as far away as possible. I’ve got a bit like that anyway over the years myself so we’re happy wandering the forest away from it all. He has a only a few human friends, his trust is hard earned, and on his time scale.

Dogs are another matter, bloody ace with them. I’m pretty sure his previous life included Transit pick ups & caravans so he was probably in a pack and he picks up all the dog nuances.
A gentle, fun loving soul really, he's been a bit trying at times, to say the least, but to be honest he also rescued me during a difficult few years. I’ve loved all my dogs but this one’s got right under me skin!

Its an ongoing theme…….
