I got to the pub at 8pm last night, Gareth from across the was already there. He was playing a fella at chess so I asked to sit down and started studying the board, his opponent introduced them "Hi I'm Dave and this is Lawrence" I thought "that's not Lawrence that's... just a bearded man in a hoodie, I'm at the wrong table". Seems Gareth was watching me enter and thinking "he's keen to see the old chess game".

Fortunately it's the kind of pub that they were happy to have me join them. I'd not even had a drink at that point 😅

I tell people I'm bad with faces and they don't understand what I mean by that.

Possibly going to have a look at a bike today. It's a bit of a project but doesn't seem to be too much of one from the pictures.

I'm keen to get another bike, but haven't seriously looked until now.

The plasterer came in today to plaster the old doorways and dodgy bits after taking the partition down. He did a really good job and only charged £120 for the work. Pity he covered my car with plaster dust whilst he was mixing it up.

I just need to wait for it to dry and then it will be decorating time.

Nice, that would have taken me at least two weeks, and £90 in materials.

Had a call from my son. His girlfriend and him have named the date they are getting married, 29th June this year. It is going to be a small wedding with just them, their daughter, two witnesses, the humanist, the four parents and two siblings.

I'm sure it will be fine.

I hope it's a lovely event. It doesn't need to be a massive full bhoona performance, it just needs to be something they want and that the family and friends they do invite are happy for them.

I hope life is very good to them and they're happy :)

I never, ever, wanted a 'big' wedding. It was my idea of hell. We married in the Registry Office but an Aunt insisted that we couldn't just go for a quiet meal afterwards and turned it into a 'family' thing. To keep my Father happy we conceded, but honestly ? I wish we hadn't. I wish we'd just stuck to our own quiet choices.

Everybody's different; some folks relish that whole wedding mindset.

I have friends who do/did.....helicopter to bring the bridal party over to the mainland, castle wedding, cruise on the loch, etc., African safari honeymoon.....and a few years later they were divorced.
Ah well, it was an experience I suppose.

We got married in 84 the church was packed with friends. Standing room only. Big reception and then big night do at a different venue. It was the done thing then. I can count my friends on one hand now. Our son is getting married in Florida next year, wtf. He's our only child so we wouldn't miss it but come on.

I agree on a small wedding with the people that matter the most. Initially though he didn't invite his sister (she is now invited) or his 95 year old grandad (still not invited because they would then have to invite her grandad).

I think they could manage the Grandads.....even I managed to deal with Great Aunt Annie !
A lady who on a good day could offend at least fifty people before lunch, and still feel up for telling me off when she was 93.

Up to them though; I hope it's a happy day.

Sounds like she would fit right in here.....

I think we'd have banned the old beson in gun time, tbh.

It was bad enough that one of the old men who came to the Men's Fellowship approached my Uncle (my parents were cousins, Annie was my Mum's cousin on the unrelated side, so not related to the Uncle, just vaguely family, iimmc ? ) and said, "You're some relation to Annie C..... ?", and my Uncle in the spirit of utter truthfulness said that she was, "Nae relation 'o mine, thank God"....to which the other old fellow replied, "Ah well, she's an aul' bitch !"....his brother was in the same old folks home as Aunt Annie and she was being her usual self.
The Minister gave them both a flyting, spoke about tolerance and Christian Charity, etc.,
Two months later, after visiting the home, he came and commiserated with the Uncle

I have a terrible object lesson in how not to behave when I'm an elderly crone !

Vienna and Prague are both cities which are good to stroll around taking in the sights. Budapest is two cities: Buda and Pest and the central area is consequently less well defined. All three were great to visit when we were there but it was a long time ago now. Have fun, looking forward to hearing how you got on.
