Just to put an end to the wanted ad, I caved in for a different one: the Mini 2 is excellent, being tiny and all, but lack a crucial feature at least for France: it has no GPS.
It appears that across the Channel, you can use dash cam footage for evidence in court... but it will not be taken into consideration if your version differs from the police unless GPS data can confirm it is the same place at the same time. Else their word will trump your dash cam.
I am not worried (really!) about the gendarmes, who are military and usually impeccably trained, but I am much more circumspect when it comes to "police municipale", which are local boys (town police) with usually little training and who take orders from the local mayor.
"Police nationale" is a bit in the middle, not trained well enough, usually not the pick of the litter in terms of recruitment but those who have been sworn in (OPJ) have had to take exams where describing the cover of your book using nouns and adjectives isn't enough.
Of course the above is a bit of a caricature... or is it?
As to the dash cam, I'll wait until it's received and installed (I
may document this
) and will show you the result if there is anything remotely worthy of showing.
