This old Omega Seamaster automatic/calendar showed up yesterday. Pretty happy with it, I have to say.

… and, here, in company of an mid-50s Glycine and an early-60s Seamaster manual:

Attractive little buggers them. There is a black-faced De Ville chronometer knocking around (c. 1970) which still has me sorely tempted. Luckily, I am now broke.

I don't think the strap is original to this watch. As, judging by its condition, I was the first person to ever wear it. But, I think it is of the same time, possibly. It looks right, and has the not unpleasant but faintly musty smell of old leather, long stored. Like you might get on a vintage surplus rucksack.

That's nice. No way that is the original strap. The buckle looks a little chunky to match as well but the chances of getting one original must be extremely slim - it is from a period where everyone wore their watches. The original strap was probably ruined by sweat within a couple of years.

I'm currently drawn to the Lorier Astra. They do mid-century inspired stuff - I really like the balance of tool and dress features. Similar to the Smiths I have I suppose.

Tasteful that Lorier is.

What flavour Smiths do you have, Greg?

I have the Everest - the 'Jubilee' edition with the aventurine dial. It's hard to capture well in pictures it just looks dusty, but it's a nice effect in the flesh.

Well, that's more than OK :)

I always think straps are a bit trigger's broom. In any case, I might just take this off and keep it for best.

What to swap it for, though? There are zillions of straps out there

Totally. Is there any branding on it? There are a ton of nice strap companies. Think I'd just wear it and transfer the buckle to a new one when it's dead.

They do some nice versions of the Everest - the Expedition is nice. More period accurate. I don't love the mercedes hands on mine (or on anything honestly).

Who is it that has the old Seamaster 300 on here? Did it ever come out of the draw? I look at them often.

I wear one of these three daily. It was the point of getting them, really.

I hate my phone. Besides every now and then someone plays spot the watch and a nice chat ensues.

Problem is that once the bug bites it bites pretty deep. The only benefit being that the expense of the game makes it hard to get too committed.:)

They are good conversation pieces. I have some good friends from the watch meet up I go to here.
