4m of quilting cotton, a new pair of shoes, and a new tattie peeler. A SA one :)
I have this one, and it is excellent :)

But I fancied this kind too.

The rocking blade works fine, that is until the plastic bit gets a bit worn and the blade falls out! I use a metal framed one which just requires a little bit of bending to put it right - until the next time!

I did wonder about that, even if it does feel really substantial.
I normally use the fixed blade but having used the shredder set and spotted this one, I took a notion to it.
I'm doing a stir fry for dinner, so I'll give it a go then.
We find the skin on peppers to be a really hard thing to digest, and I hate the footer of roasting and picking off burnt skin, so I just peel them. If this new one makes that easier, so much the better :)

On that note though, I use an old tattie peeler to strip bark for retting :)

I have one like the second one Mary. Is one of the blades serrated? If yes, it makes for the finer peels, excellent on tomatoes when you don't want to dip them in boiling water, or to peel the zest from citrus fruits.
I also have the Goodgrip version with a rocking blade. This is at least 15 yo and still going strong, and we like soups (tatties, carrots, turnips (that's swedes for you up north I believe) so in use several times a week.

I never thought of that.

When we split up my ex-wife took the tatty peeler with her. It was one we had for years and had bedded in to be a bloody good peeler, bloody cheek of the bissum.

G.

I can recommend the Victorinox one :)

Truthfully though, the tattie peeler is like the can opener I reckon. The simpler the better.

Paring stuff like peppers and tomatoes though, this new one's a good thing :)

Yeah, but spuds is dinner.
The Victorinox tattie peeler and the Kitchen Devil parer are the two most used knives in the house. Even the bread knife doesn't get as much use.

So this is where you have all been hiding!

I spied a Victorinox spud peeler on their site at £78. Hopefully a limited edition. Gold plated, no really! HERE

Some shaving kit: -

* Merkur Futur adjustable double edged razor
* Kent large synthetic ivory white shaving brush
* 5 packs of Gillette razor blades
* DR Harris lavender shaving soap in a beechwood shaving bowl

I placed the order with The English Shaving Company for two reasons: -

* The Merkur razor was about a tenner cheaper than Amazon
* I registered for the newsletter before I placed the order and got a one off 10% discount code.

I haven't wet shaved for years. I have been bearded for over two decades. I found wet shaving a faff, and I got fed up with the shaving rash which was there through the winter. Also the price of the cartridge type blades put me off restarting whenever I noticed them in the supermarkets. There is £120 in the above list so I hope that this isn't a 2 minute wonder. After I placed the order I noticed a Merkur Futur clone on AliExpress so I bought one of them at £13 to compare to the real thing. Don't worry, just because I have my own decent espresso machine and grinder, a beard, and I am looking at buying a bike and sidecar does not mean that I am turning into a hipster! Better call an ambulance though and have a few bags of O+ blood on hand for the inevitable skin slashing.

Other recent deliveries have included: -

* 640 Twinings peppermint teabags
* 5 Field Notes A6 notebooks (actually Site Notes notebooks made in China).

Really? Tell us more (I have been considering the same myself but will probably wait to see if and when we go back to the continent as sidecars are not on the same side).

Hello Noddy and Kev. My multiple quoting doesn't seem to be working. Thank you for the warm welcome, like that nasty stain, you know the one, there is no getting rid of me!

SJ - Rumblings of a sidecar have been going around in my mind for a long time. When I found out that the sort that I would want were £10k and above new (without the bike) I decided to look around. I was impressed wit the idea of a Ural. The plan was to buy a matt green one and pick up a deactivated MG34 and somehow permanently afix it THIS

The more I read about Urals the more I realised that they are extremely unreliable. So I started looking around at sensibly priced (sub-£10k) offerings. A BMW K75RT came up with a Squire RX4 chair on it at £3,500 but like an idiot I faffed about too long and so it went very quickly with a queue from what I understand. This would have been perfect and I am still kicking myself about it.

There was also a lovely Honda CB1100 at the top of the budget, but it had been kept really nice by the two owners, and I knew that exposed to the elements it would look a wreck in no time; I don't have a garage for sole use at the moment so I didn't enquire about that. Ironically the Honda outfit was then bought by the BMW K75RT owner who then put that up for sale again, but quickly withdrew it as his son persuaded him that it was too good to sell.

I have always liked the CB1100; a real muscle bike.

There was also an MZ TS250 outfit, but I decided that it would be too small to travel at speed with a decent load of me, the other half and camping kit. It was really cheap, rightly so!

The only one in the running at the moent is a Kawasaki KZ650, but I would really prefer leading link front forks. I understand that it makes piloting an outfit a lot easier. Then again it would be nice if any outfit coming my way had a sidecar brake - I just want everything!

This has been reduced to £4k. Those Z650 engines are supposed to have a good reputation for longevity. I have had two Kawasakis in the past: a KLR650 and a GT750. The 750 motor was a smooth as silk. The 650 very grunty.

Hopefully this pic heavy post won't bring the site down or even cause the lights to flicker!

Back to the Postie... I don't want anyone to think that I have stopped buying all manner of stuf!

Black EDC wallet x2 - cheapie AliExpress wallets to hold things such as multitools, torches, whistles, knives, whatever.

A Lance Ockenden (previous identity on BB - WoodlandWalker) neck knife. It has a 40mm blade and the scales might be a walnut burl, but I am not sure. I love small knives.

Back to sidecars...

I even flirted with the idea of a Harley, something I could not previously have imagined being seen on. I know they have a band of loyal fans, but I have always stood by my fact (!) that they are only ridden by Hells Angels and accountants, and I would never want to be mistaken for an accountant. Anyway, jokes aside there is a lovely HD XLH1200 on eBay with a smashing sidecar in a beautiful colour. As I would ride my bike every day given the chance, this was again impractical.

Until something else comes up, the last hope is to put a sidecar on my current bike a BMW R1200GS Adventure.

It's a beast of a bike and getting too heavy for me when it is fully loaded.
